Birthday: 24 December 2007
Lisa will be 12 on December 24th. She came into our home October 2017. She came as a very angry and bitter little girl, she did not want affection or attention. It took a long time for her to trust us or want much of anything to do with us, she basically wanted to be left alone. We were told by the social worker that she came from a very dark past, raised in a home where Voodoo was part of her daily life. Her mom was a highly decorated Voodoo Priestess and Lisa was being molded to take over this family custom when her mom would die. This has caused us great concern because we know how powerful Voodoo is in Haiti and the grip that it has on many people. Because of this, Mme. Mona slept in the room where Lisa was sleeping along with 5 other girls. One night we were awakened to the sound of barking and growling and found Lisa sitting on Carmelle trying to strangle Carmelle in her bed. Together with Mme. Mona we managed to get Lisa’s death grip on Carmelle’s neck free and wrestle her to the ground. Mme. Mona spent the next 45 minutes praying the evil spirits out of Lisa as Mavis and I stood there in shock, wondering what had we gotten ourselves into. Mme. Mona prays over all the girls and more over Lisa since that crazy night. Lisa is a very sweet girl who wants to please us, she still struggles with anger and has a very difficult time making friends with her sisters. She is a child of God and we love her dearly and know God loves her even more, so we trust that He will help heal her. Lisa can also be a super sweet kid, she loves to help in the kitchen, especially when Mom makes pizza or I’m making waffles. She is usually the first to volunteer to sweep the floor after meals. Her bad days are much fewer then when she arrived almost 2 years ago so we are very excited about that. Her favorite subject in school is English and she wants to be a schoolteacher after she graduates.
